The fatty acid composition of total lipid fraction of the brown rust inoculated wheat leaves were studied during progressive rust pathogenesis starting from the time of inoculation up to 72 h after inoculation. In general, the leaf rust infection was found to be associated with a decrease in the fatty acid chain length (as measured through C16: C18 acid ratio) and an increase in the relative degree of unsaturation as measured through 18: 2:: 18: 3 acid ratio.
