Pterocarpus marsupium seeds were germinated both in vivo and in vitro. Germination percentage was very low in both the cases. Low germination was also observed when the fruit coat and seed coat were removed mannually. In immature seeds, embryo was absent. Shoot tips grew in 0.2 mgl−1 of BAP while a higher concentration induced callus. This callus did not grow on further subculture. Shoot tips and nodal regions from the coppiced shoots showed extensive liberation of phenolics. In these explants also BAP 0.2 mgl−1 induced unfolding of the nodal buds without further growth, while induction of callus was observed in higher BAP.
