Comparative performance of barley genotypes to nitrogen levels was studied on a light textured alluvium soil at Kanpur, for two consecutive rabi seasons of 1986–87 and 1987–88, It was concluded that from an overall considerations of growth, development, energy utilization, nutrient uptake, grain quality, yield attributes and yield, variety ‘Lakhan’ of barley appeared to be better than other cultivars, and was also found efficient utilizer of moisture under limited water supply conditions of soil, A dose of 60 kg N/ha was found to be optimum for realising maximum yield.
