Studies were under taken on changes in chlorophyll, nitrogen and proline content as influenced by kinetin application (0, 50 and 100 ppm) under different levels of salt stress (0, 4 and 8 dS/m). Increasing salinity levels significantly decreased the chlorophyll ‘a’ and ‘b’ content. However, kinetin was able to partially reverse the inhibitory effect of salinity on chlorophyll content Kinetin application did not show any significant effect on nitrogen content in saline stressed plants. Increase in proline content was highly significant with the age of the crop and also with increasing stress levels. Kinetin resulted in lesser proline accumulation as compared to control in both salt treated and untreated plants.
