Abstract

Epicotyl and leaf segments from seven day old seedlings were grown on B5 supplemented with 2,4-D, NAA, BAP and kinetin. Callus response was better in NAA+kinetin, 2,4-D, though more potent, the callus formed in it had the tendency to senesce early. Callus formed from leaf segment was white, remained fresh for longer time and retained the potency through subcultures. Somatic embryos have also been observed from leaf segments but have tendency to callus at an early stage.
