The investigation was carried out on groundnut to study the effect of Photosynthogen [2- (3,4-dichlorophenoxy) triethyl amine] on translocation of total soluble sugars, starch, total lipids, free amino acids and total soluble proteins from cotyledons to the embroyonic axes of 7-day-old seedlings. Photosynthogen (0.0S µg ml−1) application decreased the quantity of different metabolites (soluble sugars, starch, lipids, free amino acids and total proteins) in the cotyledons with a corresponding increase in the axis. The biochemical data are supported by 14C-arginine incorporation studies. The role of this PGR, Photosynthogen, in stimulation of mobilization during groundnut seed germination, has been demonstrated.
