Abstract

Anthocyanin accumulation as a stress response under higher salinity (treatments with KC1 and NaCl, 1% & 2%) was studied in the roots of maize (Zea mays L.cv. Co. 1) at different stages of seedling growth. Results showed upto 40% increase in anthocyanin accumulation on dry weight basis and suggest that increase in anthocyanin accumulation may be a stress response and/or due to decreased mobilisation of other nutrients into the primary root.
