Starking Delicious apple, grafted on seedling rootstocks were grown for 90 days in a complete nutrient solution with different levels of K. The leaves were examined for the presence of pyruvate kinase activity. It was observed that at low level of K concentration of the enzyme pyruvate kinase was also low, which increased with the increase in the K levels from 0 to 234 ppm, indicating that in apple leaves pyruvate kinase is a regulatory enzyme.
