Abstract

The X-ray induced mutant plant Ribbon, is a sub-vital, male sterile line, used as seed parent in crossing with three pollen donors (JRC-212, JRC-321 and Mogra). All the three hybrids exhibited positive heterosis in most of the morphological characters. Sugars, starch, amino acids, and protein content of the leaves, were less in the hybrids. Another component DNA and RNA were also found less in the hybrid roots while nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content were notably high in the hybrid dry roots.
