Proline and putrescine though did not affect pollen germination but improved tube growth substantially. Azetidine-2-carboxylic acid, a proline analogue and hydroxy-proline on the other hand, checked germination marginally but supressed tube elongation significantly. The physiological significance of these observations are discussed.
