The response of soil exchangeable sodium percentage levels on saccharides, free proline and total protein contents in pea (Pisum sativum L.) cvs. Rachna, NDP-2 and NDP-7 was studied in a replicated pot experiment. All the biochemical observations were recorded at three growth stages i.e., vegetative, flowering and maturity. With increasing exchangeable sodium percentage, there was a continuous decrease in reducing, non-reducing, total saccharides and total protein contents. Among different genotypes, maximum reduction was recorded in NDP-2. The increasing levels of sodicity enhanced the free proline content in leaves of all three genotypes at all the growth stages. Rachna showed highest proline accumulation at each level of sodicity at every stage of plant growth.
