Alternate Respiration During Ripening of Tomato Fruits

Cyanide sensitive and resistant (alternate) respiration was measured in ripening tomato using Clark type oxygen electrode. A considerable amount of alternate respiration was recorded in the ripening tomato particularly when the fruits were half ripe or fully ripe. It is envisaged that alternate respiration must be playing a significant role in ripening.
