Abstract

The effect of cadmium on growth and viability of callus of Solatium melongena L. var. H.7 was studied, In the cotyledon and hypocotyl derived calli, lower concentrations of cadmium i.e. 125 µM proved inhibitory while higher concentrations of cadmium stimulated the growth. Similarly, the cell viability In both the cotyledon and hypocotyl derived calli was adversely affected at 250 and 125 and 250 µM CdCl2 respectively. However, the higher concentrations of cadmium in cotyledon slightly improved the viability while in hypocotyl no significant change in the cell viability was observed.
