Effects of three Triazole Derivatives on Mercury Induced Inhibition of Chlorophyll and Carotenoid Accumulation in Cucumber Cotyledons

Abstract

Effects of three triazole derivatves viz. uniconazole, LAB 150978 and BAS 111 W on mercury induced inhibition of cholorphyll and carotenoid accumulation in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv Long Green) was studied. AH the three compounds as well as kinetin brought about a marked enhancement in the accumulation of these two pigments and the protochlorophyllide levels, even though they did not truely prevent the inhibition caused by mercury. The triazole effects could be attributed to the enhanced cytokinin levels in the treated cotyledons, since triazoles are known to enhance the endogenous cytokinin levels.
