In this study effect of elevated CO2 (600±50 µII−1) was examined on growth, rate of photosynthesis, respiration and yield parameters of mungbean after 25 and 50 days of CO2 exposure (25 and 50 DAT). Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide directly stimulated photosynthesis and plant growth. High C02 treatment caused increase in leaf number, leaf area and dry weight of mungbean plants at both stages. Similarly plant height and shoot dry weight also showed significant increase due to elevated CO2. The enhancement in all the morphological parameters was more at 25 DAT as compared to later stage. It shows that early vegetative stages of mungbean is more responsive to high CO2. The rate of photosynthesis was higher at both the stages but rate of respiration reduced due to elevated CO2. Mungbean plants grown under elevated also produced significantly higher yield than ambient plants.
