Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted in Kharif with cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) under 2 sets of condtion viz. germination under different soil moisture ranging from 9.7 to 26.00 per cent and the effect of water logging (24 h to 168 h) period on germination. The germination count, fresh and dry weight of seedlings decreased with decrease in moisture content of soil. With the increase in water logging period, the germination and shootlength decreased while root length increased. The study revealed that cotton sowing should be performed around 24 per cent moisture of soil for obtaining maximum germination.
