Flower buds of sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus L.) produced very little quantities of ethylene but mature flowers exhibited a rise in ethylene production. ACC content of various flower parts was low at bud stage but showed considerable increase as the flower matured. Of the various flower parts, maximum level of ACC was attained by the staminal sheath. Stigma and style as well as staminal sheath contributed towards the maximum ethylene produced by the flowers.
