Abstract

Background level of activity of β-1,3 glucanases in both powdery mildew resistant and susceptible lines was recorded. Infection induced the cellular content ofthe enzyme in all the lines. However, this increase was much more conspicuous in the resistant lines as compared to the susceptible strains. A critical limit for resistance response was found to exist between 1.64 and 2.05 μmol glucose eq per min per mg protein.
