Abstract

A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the drought tolerance in deep water rice varieties viz., Janki, TCA-177, BR-8 and Katarni at early seedling stage. It was observed that Janki and BR-8 were tolerant to moisture stress. These genotypes have higher germinability, reducing sugars, proline content, high amylase activity and lower starch content than TCA-177 and Katarni, the susceptible counterparts.
