The photosynthesis and related leaf characters were adversely affected in rice varieties when subjected high water stress by submergence. The duration of submergence concomitantly decreased the photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration, hill activity etc. irrespective of varieties as compared to those under normal condition.
