Abstract

experiment with thirteen rice cultivars showed that release of aldehyde content was more in submerged seedlings than in non-submerged ones. Susceptible rice varieties released more aldehyde than tolerant types. Correlation between aldehyde content released by sumberged seedlings showed highly negative significant association with survival % after submergence. Results suggest that measurement of aldehyde content might be useful to indentify superior donors for submergence tolerance even at seedling stage.
