The effect of waterlogging on endogenous abscisic acid (ABA) level in peanut was investigated at different time intervals. The results showed that waterlogging causes a significant decrease in ABA content towards 96 h. The contents of free and conjugated ABA were highest in seed after 48 h of waterlogging and in 24 h control, respectively. In contrast, in leachates, free and conjugated ABA levels were highestin 24 h control and 48 h of waterlogging, respectively. The total ABA level in the seed was identical in control as well as 48 h of waterlogged seed following which the level decreased. In leachates, the total level was highest in the control following which it decreased. However, the level of ABA in controlleachates was more than that of control and 48 h waterlogged seed.
