The effect of different growth regulators viz. IAA (0.1 ppm), GA3 (1 ppm), BA (1 ppm) and ABA (0.01 ppm) in vase solutions on various physiological and biochemical aspects were recorded during senescence of the chrysanthemum flowers. The flowers kept in BA showed lesser declines in fresh weight, relative water content, ion leakage, total soluble protein content and lower activity of cell wall hydrolytic and proteolytic enzymes. Conversely, the flowers kept in ABA showed the vice versa. The decrease in metabolic activity along with increased protein inactivation and degradation might have led to the progression of senescence in chrysanthemum flowers.
