Effect of aluminium on pigment content, hill activity and seed yield in mungbean

Abstract

Higher concentrations of aluminium is toxic for plants and this can be demonstrated experimentally in both laboratory and in field conditions by application of aluminium in the form of aluminium sulphate. Aluminium was found to have deleterious effect on leaf area, increased chlorophyllase activity followed by a decline in pigment content and Hill activity. Such effect on physiological and biochemical changes resulted in decrease in seed yield of mung bean. Data on seed yield, were recorded for two consecutive years (1995–1996) and multiple correlations of these parameters were analyzed.
