Abstract

Regeneration ofplantlets through organogenesis from callus cultures is described in the important rattan species Calamus tenuis. Shoot apical meristem explants produced callus on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 9.05 μM 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and shoots differentiated optimally from callus on MS medium containing 22.20 μM 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) and 8.04 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Regenerated shoots were rooted on MS medium with 0.49 μM indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). Regeneration of plantlets from shoot meristems via primary callus production and a two-step organogenesis process required 21 weeks.
