Nodule like structures were induced on the seedling roots of rice (cv. Pusa 834) treated with synthetic auxins such as 2,4-D (0.5 ppm), NAA (8 ppm) and IBA (8 ppm). Inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense without any auxin treatment did not induce nodulation. Seedlings treated in different combination with auxins and Azospirillum inoculation were transplanted to pots to study the yield response. The combination of auxin treatment and Azospirillum inoculation resulted into enhancement in yield contributing characters with reduced spikelet sterility leading to higher yield.
