Two insecticidal trials were.conducted in and around Kanpur during 1979–80. Sprays of monocrotophos 0.08 percent resulted in the greatest reduction (64.2 per cent) in grain damage by the pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa. Monocrotophos sprays at 0.04 and 0.02 percent caused 56.1 and 24.8 percent suppression of podfiy damage, respectively. Two/three sprayings of monocroto-phos at 0.04 percent offecred excellent protection from the damage of M. obtusa and were significantly superior over one spraying.
