When Hempa was applied topically to adult rice moth, Corcyra cepha/onica Stainton in the labo-ratory at 15, 45, 75,105 and 150 ug per moth in three different crosses (C1-Treated male x Treated female, C2 - Treated male x Untreated female and C3 - Treated female x Untreated male) with two interva1s/hr and 24 hr between the treatment and access of the two sexes for mating and egg laying. A dose of 150 ug/moth was required to cause desirable level of Sterility. The egg viability and fecundity were reduced when both the sexes were treated. But, there was no significant difference in the egg viability between Cl and C3 at 150 ug per moth with 24 hr interval, proving that Hempa is essentially a female sterilant. Efficacy of topical application was apparently governed by time factor.
