Studies on the damage caused by pod borer, Heliothis armigera (Hb.) and ‘tur’ pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa Mall. to extra-early and early maturing promising genotypes of pigeonpea indicated DL 78-1, ICPL 155 and ICPL 161 to be more damaged by pod borer while UPAS 120, VL 23, H 79–25, ICPL 315, TAT 9 and TAT 10 were less damaged. ICPL 161 was found more prone to the attack of both pod borer and pod fly while H 79–25 was less damaged by both these insects. Availability of podding stage of pigeonpea in the field at peak period of activity of pod borer/pod fly influen-ces the damage due to these pests.
