The efficacy of seven insecticides viz. phosphamidon, endosulfan, quinalphos, dimethoate, methyl demeton, monocrotophos and carbaryl plus molasses was evaluated in field trials at Sagar (M.P.) during 1983 and 1984 against the stemfly. Melanagromyza phaseoli (Tryon) on soybean. On the basis of per cent plant infestation, stem length tunnelled and the yield of infested plants, monocrotophos (0.04%) followed by methyl demeton (0.05%) and dimethoate (0.03%) were found to be effective. Endosulfan (0.07%) and carbaryl plus molasses (0.05%) proved least effective.
