Studies to evaluate the efficacy of endosulfan, fenthion,. fenvelerate and burlap skirts against the larvae of Lymantria obfuscata Walker (Lymantriidae; Lepidoptera) on walnut trees were undertaken during 1982 and 1983 in Kashmir. Burlap skirts 30 cm wide were stapled around the trunk of the experimental trees at waist to breast height. Endosulfan and fenthion were applied at 0.05 per cent and fenvelerate at 0.03 per cent concentration. All the treatments significantly reduced 1he population of the pest. Fenvelerate and endosulfan proved superior to burlap skirts and fenthion.
