The drift of spray droplets from a hand-held ultra-low volume (ULV) spinning-disc controlled droplet applicator (CDA) was sampled using bromide paper placed on different portions of the body of the operator. In a 2-minute to-and-fro walk in two-metre tall pigeonpea, means of 12.3, 2.8, and 0.4 droplets/cm were recorded on the body of the operator when the wind (average velocity 8.5 kin/h) direction to the direction of spraying was at 15–20°, 40–45° and 70–75°. The importance of safety in the use of ULV sprayer is emphasised.
