Pea stemfly, Ophiomyia phaseoli (Tryon) is an important pest of peas in eastern Uttar Pradesh which causes plant mortality and yields are greatly affected. Dimethoate and phosphamidon (seed soaking and spray), phorate, aldicarb and carbofuran (basal dressing) were evaluated during rabi 1982–83 and 1984–85 at the University Farm, Narendra Nagar, Faizabad. Insecticidal treatments were signifi-cantly superior over control. Among the treated plots the minimum and maximum plant mortality was observed in plots treated with phorate (basal dressing) and dime-thoate (spray), respectively. There was no significant reduction in plant mortality with the basal dressing of phorate, carbofuran, aldicarb and seed soaking with phos-pharnidon. The maximum yield was obtained with carbofuran when applied as basal dressing. Slight adverse effect on germination was observed in seed soaking treatments.
