Abstract

Field experiments to determine the efficacy of different insecticide formulations and lleem seed extract for the control of cowpea pod borers were conducted during 1984–85 and 1985–86 at the farm of University of Agricultural Sciences, Pharwad. Pod borer incidence was lowest in plots treated with monocrotophos (250ml a.i./ha) (29.97 per cent) with the highest grain yield (5.75 q/ha) followed by neem seed (25 kg/ha) extract (42.34 per cent), phosalone 250ml a.i./ha (43.06 percent) and quinalphos 250ml a.i./ha (44.83 per cent), with a grain yield of 4.79, 4.70 and 4.14 q/ha, respectively. Dust formulations of folidol (2%), carbaryl (10%), toxaphane (20%) and quinalphos (5%) at a rate of 20 kgfha were less effective in controlling pod borers.
