The efficacy of different synthetic pyrethroids, viz., cypermethrin (Ripcord 10 EC), deltamethrin (Decis 2.8 EC), fenvalerate (Sumicidin 20 EC), cypermethrin (Cymbush 25 EC), flucythrinate (Pay-off 10 EC) and fenvalerate (Fenvel 20 EC) as sprays was compared with the recommended practice for tbe control of Chilo parte/Ius (Swinhoe) during 1985 and 1986 kharif seasons. In general two sprays of the said treatments proved superior to the single spray. Single spray of cypermethrin (Ripcord 10 EC)@ 100 ml and deltamethrin (Decis 2.8EC) @ 200 ml was distinctly and consis-tently superior to the untreated control and equally good to the recommended practice (a spray of endosu1fan EC on 10-day old crop followed by spot application of endo-sulfan 4G twice in the whorl of infested plants on 18 and 25-da,y old crop) and could replace the latter. Fenvalerate (FenveJ 20 EC) at 100 ml and flucythrinate (Pay-off 10 EC) at 100 and 200 ml failed to control the pest.
