Karnal bunt caused by Neovossia indica (=Tilletia indica) has become a $erious disease of wheat in India and causes losses both qualitatively and quantitatively. Following stepwise multiple regression analysis, a linear model to predict the frequency (Y1) and maximum disease severity (Y3) of Karnal bunt was developed.
A non-linear relationship was observed between temperature and Karnal bunt. severity and followed a relationship in second order polynomial. It appears that by measuring temperature and rainfall the disease occurrance and severity could be pre-dicted with reasonable accuracy.
