Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan(L.)Millsp.) is the most important pulse crop oc Madhya Pradesh and is severely damaged by pigeonpea pod fly (Melanagromyza obtusa Mall.) and pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner). Monocrotophos (0.05%), endosulfan (0.07%), fenvalerate (0.01%), decamethrin (0.002%), (Coliar spray), parathion (2%) and BHC (10%) + D.D.T. (5%) (1:1) dusts @ 25 kgjha. were applied twice at 50% flowering and 15 days later to control these pests during 1986–87 and 1987–88 at the Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Powarkheda (M.P.) The results indicated that monocrotophos and endosulfaD successfully checked the pod and grain damage by pod fly and pod borer resulting in nigher yields of pigeonpea. These treatments gave a net profit of Rs. 3097 and Rs. 2545/- per na. respectively with a cost/benefit ratio of 1:5.5.
