Abstract

Two insect species, Neochetina eichhorniae Warner and N. bruchi (Hustasch) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) were introduced into the country during 1982 for the control of water hyacinth. Since then, these weevils were mass produced at different centers, and in 1987, a trial was conducted in Nacharam tank in Hyderabad, where adult weevils and also the inoculated plants consisting of all the developing stages of the weevils were released. Both the species of Neochetina severely stressed wvater hyacinth, and caused the plants to die keeping the tank
