Two insect species, Neochetina eichhorniae Warner and N. bruchi (Hustasch) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) were introduced into the country during 1982 for the control of water hyacinth. Since then, these weevils were mass produced at different centers, and in 1987, a trial was conducted in Nacharam tank in Hyderabad, where adult weevils and also the inoculated plants consisting of all the developing stages of the weevils were released.
