The effect of different levels of infestation of leaf miner, Chrotnatomyia hordeola (Goureau) was studied on pea (Pisum sativum L.) during the 1990–92 seasons. Increase in leaf miner infestation affected the plant characters adversely. Differences in leaf infestation did not result in a significant reduction in number of grains per pod, pod length, pod weight, and 1000 grain weight. The number of pods per plant and grain yield were highest in completely protected plots. Significant reduction in grain yield was recorded beyond 40% leaf infestation. Avoidable losses in grain yield were more than 20% beyond 40% leaf infestation. The cost: benefit ratio was highest (1:6.3) at 40% infestation. To keep the leaf miner under control, two sprays of dimethoate were required.
