Seed-borne fungi, Alternaria porri (Ellis) Lif. and Aspergillus niger van Tiegh. are two important fungi infecting onion seeds. A. niger was recorded on seeds of all the eight onion varieties tested, of which Gulbarga local was the best, and M 2-4-1 was the most susceptible. A. porri infection was highest in Nasik Red. Bellary Red and Poona Red showed no infection. Seed infection decreased over time.
