Abstract

Bionomics of the paddy yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas Wlk. were studied in the laboratory. Fecundity per female was 120–155 eggs, and there were in 2–4 clusters. Egg incubation period was 9 ± 1.41 days, and larval period 40.98 ± 3.39 days. The pupal period was 5.83 ± 0.75 days. Longevity of female and male adults was 5.61 ± 0.39 and 4.2 ± 0.02 days, respectively. Pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods were 2.45 ± 0.40, 3.03 ± 0.37, and 1.21 ± 0.24 days, respectively. The life cycle was completed in 63 to 71 days. Sex ratio of males: females was 1:1.54.
