Seed treatment of paddy with monocrotophos @ 0.35, 0.70, 1.05, 1.40, and 1.75 kg a.i./100 kg seed significantly affected germination percentage. Lower application rates of 0.35 and 0.70 kg a.i./100 kg seed were less toxic, whereas higher rates resulted in delayed germination, in addition to greater toxicity. Seed treatment also affected the root and shoot growth of seedlngs. Monocrotophos at 0.70 kg a.i./100 kg seed and above significantly reduced root and shoot growth by 55.7% and 73.9%, respectively.
