In the 1989 and 1991 the ecoclimatic conditions that favoured the development of New Wilt were higher maximum temperature (30- 35°C), higher mean temperature (26–30°C), lower amount of precipiation (4–22 mm) with higher number of dry days (15–19 days) during the first 15–20 days in the month of September. The cumulative rate of change of maximum temperature was also high during this period. The potential evapotranspiration valves were also high in the month of September in 1989 and 91. The PET values can be of use to forecast the occurence of New Wilt under dry conditions. In 1990, New Wilt developed under waterlogged conditions.
