The essential oil of Coleus amboinicus Lour, proved fungistatic to Aspergillus flavus Link. and Aspergillus niger Van Tiegh. at 100 ppm. Temperature treatment and prolonged storage did not alter the fungitoxic efficacy of the oil. The oil has been standardized by determining its various physico - chemical properties. Dry fruits stored in fumes of the oil at 5000 ppm remained fungus free for four months.
