Among the nine foliar sprays tested carbosulfan was found to be most effective in reducing oviposition and larval hatching of yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incerttdas (wilt). Insecticides like methyl parathion, ethofenprox, quinalphos and BPMC, though reduced oviposition significantly, but could not control larval hatching. All the treatments showed less larval hatching both in net house and Held conditions when they were applied on the plants before oviposition. But when applied after oviposition, methyl parathion, BPMC and quinalphos showed less performance in field than in net house condition.
