Screening of Muskmelon Germplasm for Resistance to Fusarium Wilt and Studies on Phenols in Relation to Seedling Resistance

Abstract

Forty nine genotypes of melons (Cucumis melo L.) were screened artificially for resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis. Four genotypes (Arka Jeet, Harela, NC 62923 muskmelon and IC 625 longmelon showed high resistance; five (Panna Local, Gujarati, Green Glabrous, Allahabad Kajra and Hermaphrodite) were moderately resistant and the remaining showed susceptible reaction. Studies on total and ortho-diphenols in seedlings of selected resistant, moderately resistant and susceptible genotypes revealed no relation with disease reaction to the pathogen.
