Efficacy of HaNPV 250 LE/ha and 8 synthetic insecticides (endosulfan 0.05%, monocrotophos 0.05%, carbaryl 0.15%, cypermethrin 0.0075%, fenvalerate 0.01%, deltamethrin 0.002%, and fluvalinate 0.008%,) alone and combinations of HaNPV with half the dose of these insecticides was assessed against fruit borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on tomato during 1992 and 1993. The synthetic pyrethroids viz., cypermethrin 0.0075%, fenvalerate 0.01%, and deltamethrin 0.002% were found to be superior over conventional insecticides tested. Combined applications of HaNPV 250 LE/ha with half the dose of these pyrethroids were comparable with their normal dose in reducing the larval population and fruit damage, and increasing the yield. However, carbaryl 0.15% and endosulfan 0.07% alone and their subnormal doses combined with HaNPV 250 LE/ha were far better than monocrotophos and quinalphos at 0.05% and their combinations with HaNPV.
