Abstract

Studies on tomato crop for the management of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci G.) were conducted over a two year period at Agricultural Experiment Station at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman during 1993–95. Each experiment had a total of 10 treatments, including six insecticidal with carbofuran (two different dosages), endosulfan, Aflix (endosulfan + dimethoate), buprofezin and triazophos; three cultural treatments covering the plants with Agril (a polyester material) for 30, 45 and 60 days after transplanting in all the treatments. The plants covered with Agril recorded less incidence of egg and nymphal populations and of TLC V in the two years of study. There was a significant increase in yield of plants underthe three Agril covertreatments with an average rangingfrom 44 to 49 t/ha as compared to average in control treatment with 26.5 fha over the two year period.
