Abstract

Field trials on the chemical control of Kalahasti malady (Tylenchorhynchus brevilineatus) in groundnut through seed treatment followed b^soil treatment were conducted during 1991–92, and 1993–94 rabi seasons in farmer's field at Guttivaripalli and Andhra Pradesh State Seed Development Corporation (APSSDC) Seed Farm at Srikalahasti. Five fungicides (Carbendazim, Captan, Mancozeb, Thiram and Aurefungin), one antibiotic (Streptomycin sulphate) and two insecticides (Manocrotophos and phosphamidon) were used in the trials for seed and soil treatments. Among all the eight pesticides tested, carbendazim at 0.2 per cent seed treatment followed by 0.1 per cent as soil drenching proved superior and significantly reduced nematode population (18.0 and 18.0 per cent) and nematode disease severity (10.39 and 7.4 per cent) and increased pod yield (22.74 and 18.89 per cent). All the other treatments were found ineffective in the control of the disease.
