Abstract

The field experiment was conducted to study the spray characteristics of monocrotophos emitted through hand compression, knapsack, Hi-tech and Akela sprayers with single and double duromist nozzles at 30 and 40 PSI pressure on tobacco. Spray characteristics such as droplet density, number median diameter (NMD), volume median diameter (VMD), spray coverage (NMD/VMD) and droplet size distribution were computed. It showed that the droplet density at top canopy varied from 38–456 per cm2. The highest droplet density of 456 per cm2 with good coverage of 0.55 (ratio of NMD/VMD) was recorded in the plots treated through Hi-tech sprayer with double nozzle at 40 PSI followed by Hi-tech single nozzle, knapsack and hand compression sprayers. Akela sprayer recorded the lowest droplet density of 38 per cm2 with coverage ratio of 0.35.
